Ayers, Sandra Lea

ORRVILLE   Sandra Lea (Hahn) Ayers, age 69, of Orrville, formerly of Dalton, died Nov. 3, 2019, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.  Now absent from the body, Sandra is rejoicing with her Lord in her eternal home.

Sandra has donated her remains to research and organ donation.  There will be no calling hours, and following cremation, a private family service will be held at Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.

Memorials contributions may be made to Dalton Baptist Church or any veteran’s organization.

Sandra was born on September 7, 1950, in Macedonia, OH to the late Elmer and Leona (Yonker) Hahn, and was a 1968 graduate of Dalton High School.

After high school, Sandra enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps where she trained as a dental assistant/hygienist and attained the rank of SP/5 (E-5).  She was awarded WAC of the month and WAC of the quarter at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.

She attended Prince George’s Community College and Massillon Baptist College.  She retired from the Cleveland Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center as a personnel actions clerk.

Along with an exceptional sense of humor, Sandra will be remembered for her love of animals, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school.  She loved traveling (having lived in eight states), hiking, reading, her doll collection and spending time with her grandchildren.  When her oldest grandson was four, he said “grandma is the smartest person in the whole world.”

Since the day Sandra gave her life to Jesus Christ, she had been called to be a church pianist wherever she lived, lastly serving at Dalton Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ford J. Ayers; daughters, Susan (Ted) Crites and Amy Ayers; grandchildren, Teddy, Liz and Dakota Crites, Alex Booth and Christopher Ayers; great-grandchildren George and Ellie Crites; and a sister, Judy (Bob) Mutchler.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, son, Timothy Jay Ayers, great-grandson, Theodore Crites IV, and step mothers, Helen and Joanne.
