Zuercher, Mahlon N.

Rittman — Mahlon N. Zuercher, age 95, of Rittman, formerly of Smithville, died Thursday, November 21, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman, following a period of declining health.

Mahlon was born on March 6, 1924, in Orrville, to the late Noah and Aldine (Lehman) Zuercher, graduated from Smithville High School in 1942, and married Beulah Stauffer on August 10, 1947, in the Wooster Mennonite Church. Beulah survives.

He was a self-employed electrician for many years and also did industrial maintenance.  He finished his career as a Maintenance Man for Green Local Schools for 11 years, retiring in 1990.

Mahlon was a member of Smithville Mennonite Church, and a former member of the Smithville Ruritan Club and the Smithville Fire Department where he served as an EMT. He was also previously a delivery volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Mahlon and Buelah enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their RV, visiting sites and relatives in many States. He also enjoyed working with Mennonite Disaster Service.

Surviving are seven children, Carol (Ken) Stuter of Orrville, Paul (Sheila) Zuercher and Stan (Kim) Zuercher, both of Crossville, TN, Ron (Jackie) Zuercher of Wooster, Dan Zuercher of Cottonwood, AZ, Joyce (Fred) Thomas of Ashland, and Steve (Lisa) Zuercher of Wooster; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Herman (Marian) Zuercher of Prescott, AZ; and two sisters, Ethel Miller of Prescott, AZ, and Marilyn Scotti of Parma.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilfred Zuercher; and sisters, Frances Moser and Evelyn Cross.

Friends may call on Monday, November 25, 2019, at Smithville Mennonite Church, 6097 Akron Road, Smithville, from 4 pm to 7 pm.  Friends may also call on Tuesday from 10 am to 11 am at the church.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, at Smithville Mennonite Church, with Pastor Todd Martin officiating. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at the Apostolic Home and LifeCare Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Mahlon in his last months and days.
