It was a shaky start to the season for Dalton High School’s varsity girls basketball team when they dropped their season opener to Berea, but the Lady Dawgs won their next two games against Triway and Northwestern, respectively. Dalton’s overall record is 2-1 and 1-0 in WCAL.
Dalton started the season against Berea-Midpark Nov. 22 at the Canton Fieldhouse for the Bulldog Battle. The Titans topped the Lady Dawgs 52-46.
Senior Makenna Geiser led Dalton with 16 points. Fellow senior Camille Beatty sunk three triples and finished with 13 points. Mia Weaver collected two 3-pointers and ended with 10 points. Lauren Clos added five points and Tess Denning had two points.
The Lady Dawgs did not waste any time dwelling on the loss. They came out Nov. 23 and defeated Triway 56-29 during Dalton’s home opener. Geiser totaled 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. Weaver finished with 16 points, five boards and three assists. Beatty scored 11 points, ripped three boards and dropped five dimes. Kelsey Shoup added four points, in addition to two rebounds and one assist. Ella Lunsford scored three points and grabbed two rebounds. Clos finished with two points, three rebounds and three assists. Denning pulled five boards and scored two points.
The Lady Dawgs kept the momentum going when they traveled to Northwestern Nov. 26. Dalton won the dogfight against the Huskies, 61-23, in a game that was out of reach by halftime. Beatty charged ahead with 15 points, including five triples, one rebound and four assists. Geiser collected 11 points with five boards and three assists. Denning added 10 points and grabbed three rebounds. Shoup scored eight points and dished five assists. Clos finished with six points, five rebounds and four assists. Lunsford had five points and six rebounds. Weaver totaled two points, two boards and three assists. Piper Cannon and Gabby Cicconetti both had two points and one rebound. Cicconetti also had one assist.
