ORRVILLE — Betty Jo Keener, age 76, of Orrville, formerly of Smithville, died Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Betty Jo was born on November 2, 1943, in Grays Landing, Pennsylvania, to John and Genevieve (Helmick) Volansky, and married Robert D. Keener on December 31, 1962, in Masontown, PA.
She graduated from Albert Gallatin (PA) High School in 1962, worked as a Stockroom Attendant for Westinghouse (Rosemount) for 27 years, and then was a Custodian for Wooster City Schools for 15 years, retiring in 2011.
Betty Jo was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville and the Wadsworth Eagles Club. She enjoyed home shopping network, yard work and being outside in the sun.
Surviving are three children, Lisa (Bryan) Wireman of Norwalk, Lana Meals of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Robert (fiancé’ Consetta Leonard VI) Keener of Bellevue; granddaughter, Betsy (Bo) Cook of Portsmouth; great granddaughter, Carolyn Jo Cook; two sisters, Nancy (Wade) Glosson of Virginia Beach, VA, and Dottie (Craig) Mouton of New Orleans, LA; brother, Joe (Anne) Volansky of Masontown, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob, on March 26, 1990; a brother, Jerry Volansky; and a son-in-law, Doug Meals, on September 9, 2019.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Smithville Cemetery, with Fr. Ronald J. Turek officiating.
