It was a rough week for Dalton High School’s varsity boys basketball team, but it ended on a high note. The Dawgs ran into trouble with Lutheran East in their first game of the week.

They then lost to Northwestern by one bucket. It was a positive end to the week, though, when Dalton topped Fairless.

The Dawgs struggled on the road against Lutheran East on Dec. 17 and fell 91-55. Jalen Wenger led Dalton with 22 points and six rebounds. Joey Dalessandro contributed nine points.

Adam Bidlack finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists. Tyler Baer also had six points. Jaiden Malone and Chance Green combined for six points. Dillon Horst scored five points. Liam Riggenbach pulled five boards, dished three assists and scored one point.

Dalton’s road woes continued when they visited Northwestern. The Huskies bit the Bulldogs 72-70. Bidlack led his team with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Dalessandro added 15 points of his own. Wenger finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Riggenbach scored eight points. Baer had seven points and five assists. Green and Ezra Miller each scored five points. Malone and Horst combined for five points.

Despite the loss, Dalton’s head coach Kaleb Reed was highly optimistic after the game.

“I am very proud of my team for the way they played tonight,” he said. “The kids played their best game to date. We, as a team, took a big step in the right direction. Everyone made play after play throughout the game. We just needed to make a few more down the stretch to come away with the win.”

Dalton’s only win of the week came Dec. 21 at Fairless. The Dawgs grounded the Falcons 48-46. Wenger led the team with 13 points and Bidlack contributed 11 points.

Dalessandro had eight points in the win. Riggenbach scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds. Malone added four points and also pulled six boards. Green scored three points and Miller had two. Baer dished five assists and scored two points.
