NAMI family education class to begin

National Alliance on Mental Illness announces the signature education program, Family-to Family, will begin on Jan. 11. Free transportation is available in both Wayne and Holmes Counties. This free 12-week education course is for families and friends of adults with mental illness, all course materials are furnished at no cost. Past attendees have described this program as life changing, according to a news release. It is taught by trained family members.

Program topics include family responses to the trauma of mental illness, diagnosis and dealing with critical periods of schizophrenia, major depression, and mania: bipolar; panic disorder; obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD); or borderline personality disorder, the biology of the brain: emerging scientific discoveries, problem-solving, listening and communication techniques, strategies for handing mental health crisis and relapse and care for the caregiver: coping with worry, stress and emotional overload.
