HS BASKETBALL UPDATE: Local teams advance in tournament play

Neighboring schools Central Christian and Dalton will face off for a boys varsity basketball sectionals game at 7 p.m. Friday at Dalton High School.

Comets basketball won 57-38 Tuesday over Cornerstone Christian Academy. CCS’ Facebook page notes that Dylan Bonner scored 1,000 career points.

According to Dalton Local School’s Facebook page: “On Friday, presale tickets will be made available to purchase at the Dalton High School office during school hours (7 am – 2:45 pm), $7 for adults and $5 for students. No local passes or reserved seats will be honored. All seats are general admission. Everybody entering the game must purchase a ticket. The ticket and event gate will open at 6 pm on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.”

Dalton’s varsity girls basketball team won against Cuyahoga Heights Wednesday, 33-7. They play next at 4 p.m. Saturday against East Canton in the OHSAA District Final at Norwayne.

Central Christian’s girls basketball team fell to East Canton meaning the post season came to an end for the hard-working Lady Comets. A post on CCS’ Facebook page notes: “These girls gave us a great season and we are so proud of all that they accomplished! We want to thank senior, Bailee Orr for her leadership and commitment to her team and the game of basketball.”

In other area games, according to the Waynedale Lady Golden Bears Basketball Facebook page, “The Lady Bears will take on Tuslaw this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Wooster High School in the district finals.” Waynedale won against Chippewa 55-53 in overtime Wednesday.

Waynedale boys varsity basketball plays in the OHSAA DIII sectional at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 according to a schedule listed on the Waynedale Athletics Facebook page.
