Dalton’s annual Village Cleanup Days canceled
DALTON The coronavirus (COVID-19) can be blamed for canceling yet another activity – one that some residents here count on each year.
The annual Village Cleanup Days originally scheduled for a week next month have been canceled. Mayor Dennis Finley cited cost and safety as concerns. He noted that since Ohioans have been urged to stay home, residents seem to be cleaning and clearing out. The village is charged by the volume, which typically amounts to about $4,000 to $6,000 for the village. This year, he expected many more items than usual to be dropped off at the village garage, which potentially could have cost the village several times the usual amount.
Finley said there are health concerns because of people potentially dropping off contaminated items and others rummaging through. He also was told dumpsters may not have been available anyway.
