Dalton lowers water rates

DGKN staff report

DALTON  Village residents and businesses may see some relief on future water bills.

The village’s Board of Public Affairs and council voted unanimously this month to have a reduction in water rates.

Previously, residents and businesses paid $4.64 per 1,000 for the first 3,000 gallons used and $10.08 for every additional 1,000 used.  They will still pay $4.64/1,000 for first 3,000, but they will pay $6.50 for every additional 1,000 gallons.

“Right now, everyone is telling you to stay home, stay clean, wash more thoroughly and do more sanitizing,” Mayor Dennis Finley said after the April 20 meeting. “The rate would have caused a hardship for families. Wanted to be able to do something to allow a price break for residents of the village.”

Moving forward, Finley said the BPA will reassess the amount of money being generated every six months and will consider if further adjustments are required.

Village Council has a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 at Village Green Park to discuss contracting with East Wayne Fire District. Action is expected to be taken.
