Dalton to join township taxing district
While talk of how to best fund local fire and EMS services continues, Dalton village council has agreed to be included in a northern taxing district in the township.
Mayor Dennis Finley read a resolution at last week’s council meeting that had been passed at the May 12 Sugar Creek Township meeting. He told council members they should communicate with township trustees if they think that the village should not be a part of the taxing district with the unincorporated northern part of the township.
The possibility of voters considering a fire levy in November has been included in discussions recently at Dalton, Marshallville, Sugar Creek Township and East Wayne Fire District meetings, and it also was part of the topic at the first meeting of the Community Strategic Vision Committee.
If the township decides to put levies on the ballot in November to fund fire and EMS services, they plan to gather input from the two primary fire departments and to meet again to narrow the details about levy amounts and length of term. Several options are still on the table.
