Orrville — Lorraine M. Zimmerman, age 92, of Orrville, died Sunday, June 28, 2020, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman, following a period of declining health.
Lorraine was born on May 12, 1928, in South Fork, Pennsylvania, to the late Thomas and Margaret (Baxter) Abel, graduated from Orrville High School in 1946, and married Ralph Zimmerman on February 18, 1949, in Orrville. Ralph died on March 22, 2008.
She worked as a secretary for the Orrville Milk Company for 3 years and then for Sheller Meats in Smithville for 11 years, retiring in 1981.
Lorraine was a member of Christ United Church of Christ and a former member of Orrville Eastern Star. She enjoyed collecting porcelain and butterfly pins and sending cards to people. She especially enjoyed her Amish friends and their children who often sang for her. She spent a lot of time with her brother, Bill, reminiscing about the old days.
Surviving are her son, David (Cindy) Zimmerman of Orrville; daughter, Margaret “Peg” Shaffer of Wooster; two grandchildren, Brian Shaffer of Worthington and Sara (Ryan) Bickley of Westerville; brother, Bill Abel of Orrville; and brother-in-law, David “Zip” Zimmerman of Orrville.
She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Charles R. Shaffer; brother, Tom Abel; and sisters, Reda Crawford, Dorcas Mathieson, Beverly Clouse, and Margaret Daniel.
Private graveside services will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, with Pastor Jeffrey Nelson officiating.
