Barberton concrete truck driver dies in crash

SMITHVILLE  A Barberton man died Wednesday after the concrete truck he was driving overturned and he was trapped inside.

The one-vehicle accident occurred just before 3 p.m. Wednesday on Apple Creek Road north of Smucker Road near Smithville, according to a news release from the Wooster post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash. The roadway was closed for about three hours by the Wayne County Engineer’s Office.
Levi S. Everson, 36, of Barberton, was traveling southbound on Apple Creek Road and was viewed by witnesses crossing the centerline then slowly driving off the right side of the roadway, the news release states. The 2005 Peterbilt concrete truck, which was not loaded, overturned and came to rest on its side.
The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and extricated by squad personnel. He did not have on his safety belt at the time of the crash, the release states. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Unit, the Wayne County Coroner’s Office, units from Central Fire and EMS and North End Garage assisted at the scene.
This is the sixth fatal traffic crash in Wayne County and the fourth involving no safety
belt usage, the release states. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash and is still under investigation.
