Orrville — Ruby Pearl Sargent, 91, of Orrville, formerly of Manchester, died Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Rocky River Healthcare of Westpark, following a period of declining health.
Ruby was born on February 27, 1929, in Adams County, Ohio, to the late Alva and Edna (Tomlin) Spires. She married Leroy M. Sargent who died in 1976.
She worked as a cook for numerous restaurants from the age of 17 as well as garment and shoe factories. She also ran her own cleaning business.
Ruby was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Orrville, was a life member of Manchester’s VFW #8287 Ladies Auxiliary and the former Orrville Moose Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and dancing.
Surviving are her grandson, Matthew (fiancé Sarah Wieder) Kratzer of Lakewood; two step-daughters, Patricia (Jim) McKnows of Greensboro, NC, and Brenda (Bob) Jackson of Cardington; two sisters, Della Wolfe of Dayton and Peggy (Joseph) DeVore of Bentonville; many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marie, Janie and Pauline Spires; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Leroy she was proceeded in death by twin children, David Wayne Sargent and Delores Jane Kratzer; step-sons, Leroy and Richard Sargent; brothers, Shellia, Arnold, Carlos, Alva Jr, Billy and Bobby Spires; and sisters, Ruth Schumacher, Wilma-Jean McGovney, Clara Bell Skeens, and Wanda Spires.
Friends may call on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 11am to 12pm.
Services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Michael H. Bone officiating. Burial will follow at the Tiverton Cemetery in Brinkhaven at 2 pm.
