Back in the game: Youth baseball, softball resume in Wayne County

It’s known as America’s favorite pastime and, at the youth level locally, baseball’s return seems to also have offered some comfort to players and fans.

In mid-May, state officials announced as part of the Responsible RestartOhio plan, that non-contact and limited-contact adult and youth sports leagues would be permitted to operate beginning May 26 if leagues met required safety protocols.

This meant a late start for the Dalton Youth Athletic Association, and resulted in less participants than usual, as well as softball and T-ball on hold. Still, it meant a start.

Apart from the DYAA, other teams have formed, including a Dalton 14u softball team, which will be playing in the county softball league, and a couple of teams with local high school student-athletes.
