Two teen drivers killed in Wayne County crash

GREEN TWP.  Two 18-year-old drivers were killed in a two-vehicle crash just after midnight Sunday in Green Township in Wayne County.

The Wooster post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that happened at about 12:03 a.m. Sunday  along State Route 57 at County Road 7. One vehicle, driven by Anthony Shaw, 18, of Elyria, was traveling southbound on State Route 57. A second vehicle, driven by Skylar Sigler, 18, of Apple Creek, was traveling eastbound on County Road 7 attempting to turn left and travel northbound on State Route 57, according to a news release.

The first vehicle failed to yield at the red light, striking the second vehicle on the driver’s side, the news release states. The vehicle then traveled off the left side of State Route 57 before striking a guardrail, overturning and becoming engulfed in flames. The second vehicle traveled southbound on State Route 57 before striking a guardrail and coming to rest farther down the roadway. Both occupants were pronounced deceased on scene by the Wayne County Coroner, the release states.

The Wayne County Coroner’s Office, Orrville Fire Department, deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Wooster post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol were all on scene.
Alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash, the release states. No seatbelt restraint was used by either driver. This crash remains under investigation.
