Dalton — Kathleen A. Schlabach, age 73, of Dalton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening, August 15, 2020, at Aultman Orrville Hospital, following a period of declining health.
Kathy was born on May 27, 1947, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Dwight and Betty (Moser) Bowers and graduated from Orrville High School with the class of 1965. She married Sam Schlabach on May 14, 1966, and they have been happily married for the last 54 years.
She worked as a rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 2005.
Kathy was a member of Salem Mennonite Church in Dalton, and has been actively involved in their Women in Mission group at the church. She enjoyed rug hooking, tole painting, and various crafting. She loved baking and cooking, and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She, along with her husband Sam, enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV, and spent their winters in Florida for the last 10 years.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her son, Mark (Brenda) Schlabach of Wooster; two grandchildren, Nick (Lindsey McPhern) Schlabach of Wooster, and Trinity Schlabach of Orrville; sister, Susie (Ken) Smythe of Orrville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Betty Bowers, and her brother, Steve Bowers.
Friends may call from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Kevin Himes officiating. Burial will take place at the Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery in Dalton.
The family has chosen to have a public event. Although funeral events are exempt from current gathering limitations, the risk of virus transmission from one person to another is much higher at a public event. Visitors are asked to wear masks, practice social distancing, and adhere to the posted signs and spacing limitations. Seating may be limited.
