HS GOLF: Dalton earns top tourney spots
Area golf courses have been heating up this month and Dalton High School’s golf team has been earning top spots at tournaments.
“The season has gone pretty well so far and I have seen a lot of improvement from last year,” said Bulldogs Golf Coach Jeff Feller.
At the team’s first tournament, the Mapleton Invitational at Ashland Brookside, Dalton finished third place out of 17 teams. The team score was 341 and the four top golfers that day were Jaden Schlabach with a 79, Preston Wenger with an 82, Brendan Lehman with an 85, and David Cross with a 95.
The Bulldogs placed second at the Western Reserve Invitational at Hawk’s Nest in Creston. Dalton competed among nine teams. The team score was a 342 and the four top golfers that day were Jaden Schlabach with a 76, Preston Wenger with 83, Brendan Lehman with 89, and Trevor Horst with 94, according to Feller.
Last week, Dalton played at the Hillsdale Invitational at Mohican Hills Golf Club and finished seventh out of 15 teams. The team score was 356 and the four top golfers were Trevor Horst with 87, Jaden Schlabach with an 88, Preston Wenger with an 89, and Brendan Lehman with a 92.
The Pines Invitational was set for this past Monday, and the Bulldogs are scheduled to return to Mohican Hills on Aug. 25 to play with Hillsdale, Smithville and Chippewa.
According to the Orrville Red Riders website at goredriders.org, the Red Riders had a 185-190 win over Tuslaw. Junior Toby McAllister (40) secured Medalist honors followed by Noah Mulpas, Isaac Leggett (51), and Cole Gravatt (52). In PAC action, Orrville fell to Northwest 185-180.
Waynedale Athletics Facebook page reported Ean Miller earned medalist honors at Friday’s Mohican tournament with a 74. The team finished second to Cloverleaf’s 315 with a score of 327.
