Dalton motorcycle rider killed in crash with semitrailer

TUSCARAWAS TWP.   A 27-year-old Dalton man was killed in a crash just after 4 p.m. Thursday when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a semitrailer.

Zachary Weaver was operating a 2011 Triumph Scrambler motorcycle westbound on State Route 172 when a semitrailer failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn north onto State Route 93. The motorcycle struck the tractor trailer while making the turn. Weaver’s motorcycle overturned and he was ejected, according to a news release from the Canton post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Stark County Coroner.

Andrii Rybiev, 46, of Glen Cove, NY, was operating the 2007 Peterbilt 379 semitrailer. He was not injured in the crash. As a precaution, he was transported to Aultman Hospital by the North Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department for evaluation.

Weaver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and had a temporary motorcycle permit, the release states. North Lawrence Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation, the release states.
