DGKN staff report
A need exists for sports officials and a local teacher and former high school varsity coach is offering an e-course beginning next month to license new basketball officials.
Henry Beun, Bible, theology and religion teacher at Central Christian School, and a licensed OHSAA official, will be teaching an e-course to prepare people to serve as basketball officials. The course begins Sept. 6 and runs for five weeks.
The course is approved by the Ohio High School Athletic Association and a complete description of Beun’s “E-Class Basketball Officiating NE Ohio,” is available on myohsaa.org. The cost of the course is $99.
“The e-course I’m leading takes advantage of newly available instructional methods which include videos and assessments of the rules,” Beun wrote in an email. “I will host an on-court session to walk through various situations, rotations and positions for both two- and three-person crews. Upon completion of the course and passing the OHSAA tests, students will be licensed to officiate games and I will actively assist in giving them opportunities to officiate basketball in youth leagues, junior high, freshman and JV games.”
