Hignight, Michael D. “Mike”
Michael D. “Mike” Hignight, age 62, of Orrville, died Sunday, September 20, 2020, at his home in Orrville, following a four year battle with cancer.
Mike was born on July 20, 1958, in Orrville, to Edwin and Helen (Rhoads) Hignight and graduated from Orrville High School in 1976. He married Kimberly L. “Kim” Kick on December 14, 1979, in Orrville. Kim survives.
He previously worked for 25 years as a Truck Driver for Smith Dairy. Most recently, he worked as an Inventory Foreman for Scott Miracle Grow in Orrville for 10 years, retiring in May of 2019.
Mike was a member of Orrville Christian Church where he was part of the praise band, did maintenance, and helped in many capacities. He enjoyed fishing when he had time, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and loved attending his grandchildren’s events.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kim, are two sons, Christopher (Megan) Hignight of Kidron and Matthew (Laura) Hignight of North Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Brady, Carter, and Kennah Hignight of Kidron, and Tucker and Declan Hignight of North Palm Beach, FL; and a half-sister, Jane (Dean) Stair of Orrville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Helena Hignight.
Friends may call on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Orrville Christian Church, 925 North Elm Street, Orrville, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Services will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, at Orrville Christian Church, with Pastor Tom Ledford officiating. Cremation will follow and burial of ashes will take place at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
The family has chosen to have a public event. Although funeral events are exempt from current gathering limitations, the risk of virus transmission from one person to another is much higher at a public event. Visitors are asked to wear masks, practice social distancing, and adhere to the posted signs and spacing limitations. Seating may be limited.
