Hanson, Bertil “Bert” A.
DALTON – Bertil “Bert” A. Hanson, age 86, passed away on October 16, 2020.
Born on August 31, 1934 in Swissvale, PA to the late Carl W. and Gerda K. (Malstrom), he was a resident of Dalton since 1972. A veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Navy, Bert obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Washington & Jefferson University in 1961 and went on to achieve his Master’s Degree from Loyola University in 1971. He retired from Republic Steel after 39 years of service. Bert was a member of Cornerstone Community Church, the Wayne County Dulcimer Club, Alpha Tau Omega Social Fraternity, and delivered Meals on Wheels. He played the piano, organ, guitar, dulcimer, harmonica, and sang in the church choir and quartet. Bert loved to fish and cheer on his Steelers and Cavs.
Preceded in death by his brother, Herbert; half-brother, Carl Hanson, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy; daughter, Fay (Eric) Graham of Creston; son, Paul Hanson of Massillon; grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, and Jonathan Graham; other family and friends.
Funeral service will be Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 18600 Davis Rd., Dalton, OH, 44618 with Rev. Tim Hull, officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Massillon. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church on Thursday.
