SCT discusses CARES Act funding

SUGAR CREEK TWP.  Trustees had a brainstorming session during the Oct. 13 meeting regarding federal CARES Act money, guidelines and deadlines, and passed a resolution that funds be made available.

Wayne County Auditor Jarra Underwood was called to provide input and she was placed on speaker via cellphone. Sugar Creek Township is set to receive about $230,000 for COVID-19 pandemic-related expenses. Underwood said the township can offer assistance to entities with which the township contracts under a sub-agreement.

Trustee Tom Gregory asked whether an acceptable idea may be to buy equipment to make a hot spot for residents, such as at the township garage parking lot, in case the school were to go to remote learning and children do not have access to Internet. Some ideas from Road Superintendent Kevin Hofstetter were read including: power washer that can sanitize; standby automatic generator if electricity goes out; touchless sinks and dryers; small porch over main entrance with pass-through window so people don’t have to come inside garage; disinfecting lights to lend to churches, schools and businesses. Trustees plan to brainstorm more ideas, listen to suggestions and run ideas by the prosecutor.

Trustee Scott Widmer was not present at the meeting.

At the Oct. 13 meeting,

  • Trustees passed a resolution to begin the process to sell the township’s mower unit via public auction. Bidders must submit a sealed initial bid to participate in the auction Nov. 10 at the township garage, 245 S Wenger Road.
  • Trustees accepted a proclamation Board Pres-ident Jon Hofstetter and Dalton Mayor Dennis Finley have worked on regarding Thin Ice Aware-ness Month in memory of Jenson Hodge, the 4-year-old who was pulled from an icy pond last year along with his brother and grandfather, but died later at the hospital. The proclamation recognizes agencies and family members and their efforts that day.
