16-year-old Apple Creek driver dies in single-vehicle crash

PAINT TOWNSHIP   A 16-year-old driver was killed Friday after his vehicle went off the road and struck trees, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The OSHP is investigating the single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 8:55 p.m. Friday on Western Road in Paint Township.

The crash involved a silver 2003 Toyota Matrix driven by a 16-year-old from Apple Creek, the news release states.

Initial investigation revealed the Toyota was eastbound on Western Road. The Toyota traveled off the left edge of the roadway and the driver over corrected to the right. The Toyota continued off the right side of the roadway striking two trees. The Toyota struck the second tree on the driver’s side and came to rest in a yard.

The  driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner.

Paint Township Fire Department, Kidron Fire Department, Wayne County Coroner’s Office, and Troopers were on scene to assist.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash. The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
