DGKN staff report

CLINTON TWP.  A 37-year-old Shreve woman was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Wooster post is investigating the crash that occurred at about 8:35 a.m. Dec. 1 on state Route 3, south of the intersection of S Elyria Road in Clinton Township, according to a news release. Initial investigation revealed that a 2012 Chrysler 200, driven by Tabatha Dye, 37, of Shreve, was traveling north on state Route 3 when she lost control and traveled into the southbound lanes of state Route 3. She was then struck on the passenger’s side by a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Trax driven by 23-year-old Samantha Penko of Mt. Vernon. Both vehicles then traveled off the west side of state Route 3, where they came to rest.

Dye succumbed to her injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner’s Office. Penko was transported by Clinton Township Fire and EMS to Wooster Community Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening
injuries. Both parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

Assisting at the scene were Clinton Township Fire and EMS, Wooster Township Fire and EMS, Wayne County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

This is the 10th fatal crash in Wayne County in 2020, the news release states.
