Dalton High School’s varsity girls basketball team edged Chippewa, 59-58, in double overtime Nov. 25 at home. The win improved Dalton’s overall record to 1-1 and they are 1-0 in Wayne County Athletic League play.

Senior Tess Denning guided the Lady Dawgs with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Ella Lunsford added 15 points, along with two rebounds and one assist. Addesa Miller scored eight points, grabbed three boards and passed one assist. Mia Weaver contributed eight points, pulled one rebound and dished five assists. Lauren Clos ended with seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Sarah Witmer had six points and five boards.

“It was a good team win for us,” said Dalton’s head coach Katie Miller. “Our kids did a nice job playing through their mistakes and continuing to play hard. We have a lot of youth at our guard play, which showed at times, but again, great job by all of our kids finishing the game. League wins are not easy to get, especially against a program like Chippewa.”
