Schaffter, Marilyn

Marilyn Schaffter, age 87, formerly of Orrville, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2020.
She was born July 24, 1933 to Mayor Roy and Veneda Weygandt in Marshallville, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Richard Schaffter on October 23, 1977 in Marshallville. He predeceased her.
Marilyn graduated from Dalton High School in 1951 and was the Homecoming Queen her senior year. She earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Early Childhood Education. She began teaching in the Bexley City Schools and taught in Apple Creek Elementary School for 25 years.  She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Women, The Dorcas Circle and the Mission Committee.
She and her husband traveled extensively with the Shriners in support of the Shriners Hospitals.  She was an avid reader and an amazing pie baker. She enjoyed entertaining, decorating for the holidays, family gatherings and playing with her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters Ann (Rob) Weiss of Poulsbo, WA, Nancy (Lowell) Lohman of Ormond Beach, FL and Carolyn (Darrin) Smith of Berea, OH, four stepchildren Penny Schaffter (Art Drentlau) of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Jody (John) Madden of Dana Point, CA, Scott (Jenny) Schaffter and Rick Schaffter, both of Wooster, OH.  She had four grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Schaffter, a son James Schaible and a stepdaughter Paula Schaffter Lehman.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in Mt. Eaton, Ohio on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Rittgers of Trinity UMC officiating.  Masks will be required.   The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/aublefuneralhome.
