Minerva man dies in East Union Twp. two-vehicle crash

EAST UNION TWP.  A 36-year-old Minerva man died in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that happened at about 5:53 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 250 just west of milepost 22 in East Union Township in Wayne County.

Daniel P. Cruise, 36, of Minerva, was operating a 2013 Nissan Rogue. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner Office. Cruise was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, according to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Mary E. Kurtz, 26, of Dundee, was operating a 2015 Ford Fusion. Kurtz was flown via Med Flight to Akron City Hospital. Kurtz was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash.

Initial investigation revealed Cruise was eastbound on U.S. 250. Kurtz was westbound on U.S. 250. Cruise traveled left of center and struck Kurtz head-on. Both the Nissan and Ford came to rest in the westbound lane of U.S. 250.

Assisting on scene were East Union Fire Department and EMS, Kidron Fire Department and EMS, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Apple Creek Police Department, North End Garage, and the Wayne County Coroner Office.

Alcohol and drugs are unknown at this time, the news release states.
