Comets win big in home opener; Lady Comets have 3-3 overall record

Central Christian School’s varsity boys basketball team took a loss in their season opener against Rittman, but the Comets regained their momentum to secure a win against Genesis Christian for the home opener. CCS went on to defeat St. Peter’s the next week. Central holds a 2-1 overall record.

CCS fell to host Rittman, 56-27, on Dec. 1. Tyler Bonner led the Comets with 10 points. He also had two rebounds and one assist. Thatcher Rohrer put up nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Clay Rohrer added four points, grabbed three boards and passed one assist. Dakota Kerby and Kaden Schrock combined for four points. Schrock also had two assists and three steals.

The Comets came ready to their home opener Dec. 4 and swiftly defeated Genesis Christian, 48-10. Central held its opponent scoreless in the first quarter and they led 36-4 at halftime. Bonner powered the Comets with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Thatcher Rohrer added 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal. Clay Rohrer finished with eight points, three boards and two steals. Schrock scored four points, dished five assists and had three steals. Kerby also had four points, along with four rebounds and one steal. Max Irwin grabbed seven rebounds and scored two points. He also had one block and one steal. Andrew Miller pulled three boards, passed one assist, had one steal and scored two points. Amos Bixler ended with two points and one block.

CCS topped St. Peter’s 35-32 Dec. 12. Kerby led the Comets with seven points. Irwin added six points. Schrock, Clay Rohrer, Bonner and Caden Granger all had five points each. Thatcher Rohrer scored two points.

Central’s varsity girls team lost their season opener at Mapleton, 40-25, Nov. 24. The Lady Comets came back on Dec. 1 to take down Rittman, 52-25, for their first win of the season.

CCS could not secure the win during their Dec. 3 home opener against Lucas. They lost by a narrow score of 43-42. Central fell on the road to Mansfield Christian, 46-38, Dec. 5. CCS started to find their strength after a 60-11 win over Medina Christian Academy Dec. 8 and a 59-46 win against Hillsdale Dec. 12. The Lady Comets have a 3-3 overall record.
