Hobert, Hazel Marie

Orrville – Hazel Marie Hobert was born on November 26, 1926 to Derlin and Ruth (Eberly) Amstutz on the same farm as her father near Marshallville. She died on December 16, 2020 in Orrville. Growing up with three brothers and a sister, going to church was a priority. At age nine, she accepted Christ as her savior. She taught Sunday school as a junior in high school and has taught for over six decades at Trinity United Methodist Church. She graduated from Dalton High School in 1944 as class Valedictorian. She worked at the former Cottage Creamery as a billing clerk where she met and married Robert M. Myers in 1947.

Hazel enjoyed traveling, volunteering, writing and sending cards, listening to radio station WCRF, sewing, gardening, Bible study circles, and attending services at church. She also enjoyed her church family and acknowledged her enjoyment of life comes from her relationship with Jesus Christ.

After 37 years, and the death of her first husband, Hazel became a caregiver for four years, assisting the elderly to enjoy life. In 1986, she married Dr. Edwin Eberly, a retired minister, while on a cruise to Jamaica. They had 17 years together.

Spending over 20 years with Child Evangelism Fellowship and Chapel on Wheels at Wayne County Fair and Bible classes after school, Hazel met Ted Hobert. Both had lost their mates and married. They enjoyed only eight months together before he passed away.

Hazel was a warm, giving and loving person who loved to play games.

She leaves behind to mourn her passing daughter Pamela Jones of Orrville, step-children, Barbara (Earl) Summers of Pennsylvania, Tad (Viv) Hobert of Springfield, Ohio, and Dave (Susie) Hobert of Winona Lake, Indiana; Sisters-in-law Arleen Amstutz of Wooster, Ohio and Cynthia Amstutz of Alpharetta, Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren, and great-step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ron, Don, and David Amstutz; sister, Verna Amstutz; and husbands, Robert Myers, Dr. Edwin Eberly, and Ted Hobert.
