CELEBRATIONS: Davises celebrate 90th birthdays and 70th anniversary

Donna Dale (Rupp) and James Davis, Jr. celebrated their 90th birthdays and their 70th wedding anniversary at The Pines, on Nov. 28, 2020, hosted by their children. Family and friends attended from Ohio, Colorado and Kentucky.

They were married at the United Church of Christ, Marshallville, Dr. Perry Mahaffey officiating. The original date was Nov. 26, but the famous 1950 snow storm forced the date change to Dec. 3, 1950.

Their family consists of children: Denise K. Davis, Chris and Jim Davis III, Dawn and Tim Hart, Lori and Dan Davis, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
They owned Rupp Construction Sand and Gravel and D and R Asphalt Supply, which they sold in 1983, opened the Orrville Dairy Queen Brazier in 1984, which is now owned by Jim III and Chris. They were also owners of The Dalton Dariette, currently owned by Dan and Lori. Through the years they traveled to all 50 states, enjoyed cruising and land travels in many areas, often with friends. They still enjoy serving the Orrville, Dalton and Marshallville area, Donna Dale through the Orrville Area United Way, Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club, Junior Achievement, Orrville Reads, Orr-Views Content Committee and Tuesday Book Club, Jim also served for many years on the Orrville City Schools Board of Education and Wayne County Schools Career Center, and now is a member of Exchange Club, The Masonic Lodge and Shriners, plus golfing and playing poker with his buddies. Both are members of Augsburg Lutheran Church and also attend St. Michael’s Lutheran Church.

They were always taught to pass on their blessings, and are pleased that their children are doing the same. They feel very blessed to live near most of their family and friends, and can share time and activities with them in our wonderful and caring community and our great United States of America.

I was so excited to see this! When I was in 3rd or 4th grade Mrs.Davis was my Brownie & Girl Scout leader. Awhile back I was driving and they were talking on the radio about people who had made an impact on your life. I immediately thought about Mrs.Davis.She was the nicest leader we could have asked for. I remember our camping trips and how to prepare for it. We each had a job to do…we even had to figure out our own menus and store list. She showed us how to write a list of things needed…Well thanks to her I love camping! You can ask my kids I still make lists and menus. But my fondest memory of you Mrs.Davis is when we were camping one time and you took each girl one at a time outside. You walked us back to the back side of the cabin( i think the Miller? cabin in Orrville) and you told us to stand there by ourselves and look out at the most beautiful clear sky with the stars really bright and to look at what God gave us to enjoy and to thank God for what he gave us. When we came back in we were separated from those who hadn’t gone out yet so we wouldn’t spoil it for the next girl. I have so many fond memories of this lady and I just want to say Thank You Mrs.Davis for going above and beyond as a leader! Thank you again and God Bless 🙏
