A vehicle crashed into a utility pole at about 8:30 p.m. Friday along state Route 94 outside of Dalton knocking out power to the area. Minor injuries were reported by the driver and passenger who exited the SUV before it was engulfed in flames, said Sgt. Otis Smith with the Ohio Highway Patrol. The driver said she may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
East Wayne Fire District put out the fire. Dalton Police assisted. Ohio Edison restored electricity.
Dalton Mayor Dennis Finley said that Friday night the village took necessary actions to make sure services were still provided to residents. The street light at state Route 94 and U.S. 30 was still functional and ODOT was notified about the situation. The village also confirmed that the generators at the sewer plant and stand pipe were functioning to insure an adequate water supply would be available, Finley wrote in an email.
