Akron man killed in Wayne County two-vehicle crash
MILTON TWP. An Akron man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday along state Route 585 (Akron Road) just north of milepost 10 in Milton Township.
Thomas B. Cook, 75, of Akron, Ohio was operating a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner Office. Cook was
wearing a seatbelt at the time of crash, according to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol.
James J. Rohr, 60, of Doylestown, Ohio was operating a 2003 Ford F-550 pickup. Rohr was flown via Metro Life Flight to Akron City Hospital. Rohr was also wearing
his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Initial investigation revealed Cook was traveling southwest on S.R. 585 and went left of center striking Rohr head on. Rohr was traveling northeast on S.R. 585.
Cook’s vehicles came to a stop in the center of the roadway, while Rohr’s vehicle had stopped in the northbound lane of travel.
Assisting on scene were the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Doylestown Police Department, Smithville Police Department, Rittman Police Department, Rittman Fire and
EMS, Sterling Fire and EMS, North End Garage, and the Wayne County Coroner Office.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor at this time, the news release states.
This is the second fatal crash within Wayne County Ohio this year.
