West Salem pedestrian dies in crash
JACKSON TWP. Troopers are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. 42 near Mile Post 19 in Ashland County.
A man was in the left lane of southbound U.S. 42 when he was struck by a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, according to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian, Brett Michael Lycans, 30, of West Salem, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ashland County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Hyundai, a 20-year-old from Shelby, was not injured and remained on scene.
The crash remains under investigation, however, the driver of the Hyundai is not considered at fault. Impairment of the pedestrian is believed to be a possible factor, the news release states.
U.S. 42 was closed for approximately 3 hours.
The Ashland County Coroner’s Office assisted at the crash.
