Lady Dawgs defeat Comets in tourney

Dalton High School’s girl varsity basketball team was rested and ready for their first game of the tournament Feb. 20 at home against Central Christian School. The Lady Dawgs had not played since Feb. 13, but the time off positively affected them. Dalton, which is the No. 3 seed, defeated No. 7 Central 56-31 in the Division IV Northeast 3 sectional final.

Addesa Miller led Dalton with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. Ella Lunsford totaled 15 points, one rebound and three assists. Tess Denning finished with a double-double of 13 points and 12 boards. Sarah Witmer collected five points, two rebounds and three assists. Marley Clark scored three points and grabbed two rebounds. Lauren Clos pulled five boards, scored two points and dished out two assists. Mia Weaver ended with two points, two rebounds and three assists. Maddy West yanked two rebounds.

Emma Mast was the Comets’ high scorer with 12 points. Kylie Nussbaum added nine points. Morgan Chandler and Hailey Eberly both scored four points each. Sophie Pertee had three points. Saige Pertee finished with two points.

The Lady Dawgs face No. 1 Loudonville in the district semifinal Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
