Dalton runners break records

After starting the week hosting a triangular meet with Waynedale and Norwayne, Dalton High School’s track and field team later competed in the Orrville Invitational, where they found success on both the boys and girls sides.
Dalton hosted Waynedale and Norwayne in a tri meet April 13. On the boys side, Dalton finished first (80), followed by Norwayne (52) and Waynedale (42). Norwayne girls won with a score of 79. Waynedale (50) was second and Dalton (46) was third. During the meet, Brianna Chenevey broke Dalton’s record in the 100 meter dash.
At the Orrville Invitational, Dalton’s boys (119) placed second behind winner Tallmadge (160.5). Evan Hodkinson placed first in the 800m and the mile. He set a new school record for the mile during the Invitational. The old record had been in place since 1976. Greg Kutz, who was the previous record holder, was in the stands as he watched Hodkinson break his record.
Hodkinson was also a part of the team of Jordan Muth, Lucas Oswald and Dillon Horst that placed first in the 4x400m relay. Dalton’s other first place finish came when Ozzie Miller won the 100m dash.
Freshman Adam Soehnlen placed second in the 300m hurdles. This was only his second time running the event. Senior Mitchell Kutz placed second in the two mile race. The 4x200m relay team of Adam Knetzer, Adam Marthey, Horst and Jaiden Malone placed second.
On the girls side, Dalton (100) came in third, one point behind Cloverleaf (101). Norwayne (126) came in first. Highlights include the 4x100m relay team of Brianna Chenevey, Lauren Clos, Ava Martinez and Amelia Knetzer placing first, Brianna Chenevey winning the 200m dash and Katie Good taking the top spot in shot put.
The 4x800m relay team comprised of Miki Fath, Emberlynn Nolt, Bailey Chenevey and Addesa Miller placed second. Brianna Chenevey, Clos, Courtney Weaver and Amelia Knetzer made up the 4x200m relay team, which also came in second. Brianna Chenevey placed second in the 100m dash.
