Dalton High School’s varsity softball team slid into a tough Waynedale team during a rain-soaked week for two losses.

Despite gaining an early lead, the Lady Dawgs fell behind host Waynedale May 5 and lost 19-9. The Golden Bears put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, but Dalton deleted the lead when it scored six runs in the top of the second. Lexi Vazquez led off the second with a double and Amber Jager followed with a walk. They both came around to score on an error that put Emily Snyder on base. She then went home on a triple from Angelique Kosier.

Emma Hostetler bunted for Kosier to score. With two outs, Abbi Snyder singled and Tess Denning drew a walk to load the bases. Hostetler and Abbi Snyder scored on a two-RBI single from Vazquez.

Waynedale took away Dalton’s lead with four runs in the bottom of the inning. They also put up six runs in the third inning. The Lady Dawgs scored two runs in the fourth, but the Golden Bears added three more runs. Vazquez singled home one run in the sixth inning and Waynedale collected three runs to end the game.

Cadence Casto took the loss. In three innings of work, she gave up 13 earned runs on 12 hits, walked three and struck out two batters.

Dalton hosted Waynedale May 6 for a closer game, but the Golden Bears still left with a 5-4 win. Waynedale at one point led 5-2 before Dalton attempted a comeback. The Lady Dawgs were in close range, but they could not overcome Waynedale’s lead. Joey Reynolds had two doubles, finished 4 for 4 and scored two runs. Abbi Snyder and Tess Denning had one hit apiece.

Chloe Simmons and Matea Martinez both tripled,
Falb recorded two doubles and Savannah Wenger collected one double. Falb and Wenger both had three RBIs in the win.
