Reasons for nomination:
Dawn has been essential to helping us run smoothly this year. She wears many hats and moves from Kindergarten to 8th grade in several different positions, always willing to be flexible. She represents Dalton so well with her positive attitude and ability to take on whatever each day brings.
Dawn has gone above and beyond to help keep everything covered. From subbing as a teacher to covering multiple para responsibilities, she had done it all. I am so thankful for everything she has done to help us this year!!
What do you love about working at Dalton Local Schools?
Being able to come along side the students and help them navigate this piece of their journey toward who they are becoming. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential. When I get the opportunity to see the light of understanding switch on that is the greatest!
The opportunity to get to know those who invested in my own kids, through a different lense, has been eye-opening. Dalton has a full staff of individuals who genuinely care and go the extra mile.
How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from EMU with degrees in biology and medical technology. After my second child was born my husband and I made the decision that I would leave my career and be home with our kids. I knew I would pursue subbing with hopes to eventually get a full time position when all my kids were in school because it seemed like the right fit for our family. I was only comfortable subbing for K-3 but I spent that whole first year mostly in middle school and intervention. There’s something about stepping out of a comfort zone that is both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. Over the years my role as a paraprofessional has morphed and changed. When change comes my first thought has always been “Can I do this?” Then I remember “for such a time as this I am assigned right where I need to be”. Every year is a new adventure.
Two people that have inspired me this year are Mrs. Mohn and Mrs. Browski.
I was able to get to know them on a deeper level and gained helpful insight from observing their teaching style and their interactions with the students.
Tell us one interesting little fact about yourself that people would be surprised to hear.
I am more of an introvert but I’m kind of ornery and love instigating practical jokes when the mood strikes.
