Cutlip, Virgil L.

Virgil L. Cutlip, 77, of Phoenixville, formerly of Orrville, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Paoli Hospital. Born in Sand Fork, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Edgar and Dolly (Hoover) Cutlip. Virgil was the loving husband of Virginia Cutlip, with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage.

Virgil graduated from Orrville High School and then attended Kent State University and then enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in the signal corps in Eschwege and Sankt Andreasberg, Germany and was awarded a Good Conduct Metal as well as an award for his Rifle Marksmanship.

After his time in the Army, Virgil worked as a Systems Engineer and Instructor for IBM for over twenty-five years. He then worked as a consultant for Fiserv for over fifteen years. In his free time Virgil enjoyed being outside and doing yard work. Virgil was also quite the handyman who enjoyed wood working and fixing things around the house. He was an avid international traveler and loved seeing new places. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family.

In addition to his wife Virginia, he is survived by two children, Charles Cutlip, husband of Susan of Mohnton, PA and Laura Cutlip, wife of David Broiles, of Baltimore MD; three grandchildren, Hammond, Stella and Fynn; two sisters, Carolyn Porr, wife of Daniel Porr of Smithville, and Evelyn Fuller of Orrville; sister in-law, Joan Reinhagen of Waleska, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virgil is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Edna Smith.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
