Smithville — Doug Carr, age 65, of Smithville, died Thursday, May 20, 2021, at his residence, following a period of declining health.
Doug was born on December 10, 1955, in Orrville, to Grant and Kathryn (Beck) Carr and graduated from Smithville High School in 1974. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University in 1979 and then received a Master’s Degree from the University of Toledo.
He was a self employed technical writer as a career and had also worked in bank processing for a few years.
Doug enjoyed photography, was an avid Ohio State fan, and was formerly a student trainer for the Buckeyes football team.
Surviving are five brothers, Jeffrey Carr of Wooster, Philip (Beth) Carr of Howard, Steven (Nancy) Carr of Smithville, Andrew (Lynn) Carr of Wooster, and Matthew (Heather) Carr of Orrville; eight nieces and nephews, Tyler Carr of Shelby, Zachary (Lauren) Carr of Delaware, Shelly (Ryan) Hamilton of Miami, FL, Sarah (Andy) Bratcher of Orrville, Amy (Sean) Plank of Akron, Katy (Lepear) Smith of Smithville, and David and Ben Carr of Orrville; and nine great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph Carr; and an infant sister, Laura Carr.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Smithville Cemetery, where burial of ashes will take place.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will follow on Friday from Noon to 2:00 PM at the Main Pavilion in Smithville Park.
