The annual Senior Service Day resumed this year after last year’s event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dalton High School seniors headed out Friday morning throughout the school district area to help elderly residents with yard work and other jobs around the house.
Like in the past, senior citizens in the community were welcome to contact the high school this spring about work they needed help with at their homes.
“I feel so blessed,” said Ida Mast, who had her gardening gloves on and assisted eight Dalton High School seniors as they spread mulch around her home on the pleasant sunny morning..
Mast’s husband, Larry, passed away unexpectedly in December 2019. He was well-known in the community as the owner of Domer Service and he also was known to take good care of his house and yard.
Mast’s grandson, Cameron Steiner, who was among the eight students helping out on Friday had encouraged his grandmother to sign up for the Senior Service Day this year. She said she was glad she did and she enjoyed meeting the high school volunteers.
