Logan Mann, a graduate of Triway High School, is the recipient of the 2021 Victor Gerber Memorial Music Scholarship, according to a news release from Orrville Community Chorus Board of Trustees.
Mann has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship. He is the son of Timothy and Nicole Mann. His future plans include pursuing a degree in music education at Otterbein University
Mann was very active in the Triway High School music department as a member of the marching band, jazz band, pep band, and symphonic band. He was also a member of the choir and the show choir. Logan participated in the Tri-County Honor Band, the Tri-County Honor Choir, and the College of Wooster music camp.
Along with high school courses, Mann took classes at Akron University-Wayne College and Ashland Univer-sity. Extracurricular activities included Academic Chal-lenge, Student Council, school theater, tennis, cross country, serving as an outdoor education tribe leader, and community theater projects.
Scholarships are awarded to seniors graduating from a Wayne County high school who demonstrate outstanding participation in music activities, academic achievement, and leadership, and who will begin post-secondary education in the fall following graduation.
Since the inception of this award in 2003, thirty-six scholarships totaling $37,000 have been presented to students representing 10 Wayne County school districts. Proceeds from the Orrville Community Chorus’ annual presentation of “Messiah” by George Frideric Handel fund the scholarship.
This scholarship honors Victor Gerber, former music director for the Dalton Local Schools and the founder and former director of the Orrville Community Chorus.
The 2021 performance of “Messiah” by the Orrville Community Chorus is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at Central Christian School, 3970 Kidron Road, Kidron.
