ORRVILLE More than 80 softball teams representing about eight different states will be playing tournament games throughout eastern Wayne County beginning next week.
The Orrville Firefighters Fire in the Sky Celebration returns this year after being canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organization had promised last year that the 2021 Fourth of July celebration will be “bigger and better than ever” and it looks like that may be the case.

The event will include the parade, 14U Girls Fastpitch Softball Tournament, carnival, and one of the “biggest fireworks shows to date,” according to information provided by the Orrville Firefighters Association.

A parade kicks off the 2021 OFFA Fire in the Sky Celebration at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 30 and the midway opens that day at 5 p.m.

This year, softball tournament games will be played in Orrville at Orr Park and Orrville Christian Church, in Dalton, games will be played at Dalton Village Park and Village Green Park, and in Kidron, games will be played at Evergreen Park. There is no charge for admission or parking.
Dozens of teams are coming this year from across Ohio as well as Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York, Kentucky and Indiana. Pool play is Friday and Saturday. Single elimination will begin Saturday and the Championship game will be at the Main Diamond in Orrville at Orr Park at 8 p.m. The fireworks will be at 10:15 p.m., Sunday, July 4 or once the championship game is over. The band performing Saturday will be CLE Rock Bar. According to www.orrvillefireinthesky.com, the 12U Five-Alarm Classic runs June 25-27. The carnival includes rides, games and carnival-style food.
