DGKN staff report

DALTON  Students and staff may see a few new faces when they return to school, but mainly they will see many of the same familiar smiles this fall – just in some different roles.

At Dalton Local Board of Education meetings this spring, board members approved to name high school English teacher Zach McFarren as the Dean of Students. Members also approved a new cheerleading coach and high school English teacher, Sarah Menuez.

The district is in the process of interviewing candidates for high school assistant principal/district athletic director. Longtime Athletic Director John Gregory has stepped down from the AD position but he will continue to teach math classes at the high school.

The new high school assistant principal/district athletic director “will be responsible for all District athletics grades 7-12, but work on ensuring there is vertical alignment and continuity with all our programs from youth, through Middle School, and into the High School,” Superintendent Jim Saxer said in an email.

The new Dean of Students position, which is being filled by McFarren, is a teaching position, Saxer explained, and McFarren also will be working with staff and students to support the implementation of a new Positive Behavior Intervention Supports program.
