Nichols, Julia Charlene “Char”
Orrville — Julia Charlene “Char” Nichols, age 89, of Orrville, formerly of Springfield, IL, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.
Char was born on October 12, 1932, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the late Anna Douglas, and graduated from Loretto Academy in St. Louis in 1950, and attended Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL and the University of Akron. She married Robert A. “Bob” Nichols on January 16, 1954, in St. Louis. Bob died on February 13, 2003.
She worked as a clerk and treasurer for Orrville Public Library for 20 years.
Char was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where she belonged to the St. Vincent DePaul Society and taught PSR for many years. She served on the Advisory Board of the Orrville Salvation Army, was a member of the Orrville Kiwanis Club, and was the Friendship Meals Coordinator for many years. She also taught Adult Basic Education, volunteered at Aultman Orrville Hospital and was a former Orrville Rotary Volunteer of the Year. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, travel, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are four children, Ruth Ann Nichols of Champaign, IL, Barbara E. (Steve) Nichols-Alleman of Orrville, Bruce E. (Suzanne) Nichols of Cuyahoga Falls, and Julia Frances Nichols of Orrville; daughter-in-law, Barbara K. Nichols of Orrville; five grandchildren, Chelsea Alleman, Michael Nichols, Jesus Menchaca, Andrea (Aaron) Polasky, and Elle Menchaca; great grandchildren, Kendra, Brayden, Andrew and Maja; a son by love, Todd Samsa; and an aunt, Mildred.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by sons, Robert Allen “Robbie” Nichols, Jr. and Robert Andrew “Andy” Nichols.
Friends may call on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 541 Spring Street, Orrville, with Pastor Ronald J. Turek officiating and will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/ aublefuneralhome. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
