DALTON  Goals are achievable.

That was the message teacher and mom Kristen Horst hoped the young students — and everyone, for that matter — gained Thursday. Dalton elementary through high school students lined up outside the schools, and the community was invited to join in to send off Dalton’s varsity golf team.

Seniors Trevor Horst and Preston Wenger and juniors Todd Brahler, Brendan Lehman and Jaden Schlabach along with their coach, Jeff Feller, boarded the big yellow school bus and made their way to the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University.

After more than two decades, Dalton was represented at the Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament. After their first round of 18 holes, the Bulldogs were in 10th place out of 12 teams with a score of 353. Top scores were Jaden Schlabach, 81, Brendan Lehman, 84, and Trevor Horst and Preston Wenger each 94. The team finished 11th overall Saturday with a team score of 355. Individual scores were Jaden Schlabach 84, Preston Wenger 87, Brendan Lehman 89, Trevor Horst and Todd Brahler 95.

“I am proud of the team for such a great accomplishment,” said Feller, who also was on the golf team when he was a student at Dalton. “We had a lot of fun and it will be a wonderful memory for everyone. We are looking forward to next season.”
