DALTON Part of downtown has been sporting a new look as Dalton Local Schools’ softball field is taking shape to be ready for play by spring.
Much progress has been made recently and some exciting plans are being set thanks to contributions of time, money and work by local businesses and community members.
Dalton’s softball teams have been playing on village softball fields and talk of the school district’s own softball field has been going on for quite some time.
Superintendent Jim Saxer posted updates last week on Dalton Local’s Facebook page along with some words of thanks to local companies. Since Ag Pro Design laid the sod last week, Saxer said he wanted to thank Howard Wenger (The Wenger Companies), who did a lot of the excavating work. Also, Jason Geiser (Deco-Crete) and Tim Steiner (Steiner Masonry) will be putting in the dugouts sometime in the next few weeks.
“I just wanted to update our communities and take a moment to thank them,” Saxer wrote in an email to The DGKN. “As we progress through the project, I will put out some posts to thank those folks who contributed to that portion of the project.”
People are welcome to continue to make donations to the Dalton softball field project through the Wayne County Community Foundation.
Saxer said the field will be ready to be used in the spring and he outlined some more plans scheduled for the next few months.
