Reason for selection: Mrs. Uhl creates a warm and inviting environment for our art classroom. Students are able to create projects based on their interest and are engaged in her room. She is kind and polite to everyone she interacts with.

What do you love about working at Dalton Local Schools?
I love that I work in a school district that values and supports the arts. And, I love the way Dalton students create art! Purple elephants, playful dragons and three-eyed monsters abound in the DMS art room!

How did you get to where you are today?

I drew a lot, as a kid. This was something that my entire family of 10, also did: Draw together, almost every night, after supper, at the kitchen table. We drew hammerhead sharks hammering nails into wood, sawfish sawing things in two and wasps dressed in top hats and overcoats. My love of drawing took me to Kent State University where I majored in Art Education. I’ve been the middle school art teacher, at Dalton, for 8 years where I continue my love of drawing with my students.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that people may be surprised to hear.

I love to grow things and have over 40 houseplants in my home. I also enjoy tending to the flower and vegetable gardens in my backyard.
