DGKN staff report

Dalton’s head wrestling coach is happy with this season’s schedule, and he is looking forward to possibly hosting a regional, and has his sights set on winning a state title.

“I truly believe this is the best regular season schedule we have ever had,” said Head Coach Kenton Lemon. “We have multiple individual tournaments and a few duals sprinkled throughout the tail end of the season. With our finish at the district tournament last year (4th place), we qualified as the number 2 seed for the state duals which means we have the opportunity to host a regional on Feb. 5, so we are certainly looking forward to that.
This past weekend, the team kicked off its season.

“We have three returning state qualifiers in Greyson Siders, returning runner up Tate Geiser and returning 7th place finisher Austin Ryder,” Lemon wrote in an email. “Our ultimate goal this season is to go win a state title as a team. We have a lot of great tests throughout the season and we will have to have our team wrestling our best at the end of the season.
“Along with the state qualifiers we have Sean Geiser (district placer), Lucas Oswald and Branyan Zaleski who have all competed at the district tournament,” Lemon continued. “The fun thing now is that these guys know what it takes to get there and they know what it takes to get through the district tournament.
“My goal for our team is to reach our full potential this season. I feel like we were extremely close last year and I’d like to see just how good we can be when everyone is clicking on all cylinders.”
