2017 DHS grad sets up fundraiser for his mother, himself
DALTON Less than a week ago, Zach Hershberger, a 2017 graduate from Dalton High School, put together a fundraiser to help out his mom, Mary Hershberger, and himself at the holidays. His mother was dealing with congestive heart failure, anemia and kidney issues, which had her in and out of the hospital. She contracted COVID-19, which complicated things both for her and Zach.
Bills were mounting and Zach was having a hard time getting back to work with having to quarantine. Zach began a gofundme.com account and provided details of their plight.
Generous hearts began to donate. As of Dec. 14, 67 donations had been received totaling $3,385 toward the goal amount of $5,000.
A couple days ago, anyone following his story through gofundme.com was in for a shock. The young man had to share that his mother passed away.
The purpose of the account changed from help with medical expenses to seeking help for funeral expenses.
The Dalton Gazette & Kidron News has reached out to Zach and we are working on a story for an upcoming edition. Here is a link to the account: https://gofund.me/96e04795
