Dawgs experience first loss of season

The win streak that started the season off undefeated for Dalton High School’s boys varsity basketball team ended at four games. The Dawgs extended the streak earlier in the week with a win over Smithville, but it came to an end in the Hall of Fame City Hardwood Classic against Mentor. Dalton now holds an overall record of 4-1 and they are 3-0 against WCAL teams.

The Dawgs took down host Smithville 60-45 Dec. 17. Jalen Wenger came up big with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists. Braylon Wenger was equally strong with 17 points and five boards. Kyrie Gaut finished with nine points, four rebounds and four assists. Jaden Schlabach scored six points and grabbed six rebounds. Quentin Lehman had five points, five rebounds and one assist. Braden Fiesler ended with two points and two boards. Grayson Lehman and Colin Pearson both had one rebound each.

Dalton’s first loss of the season came in a hard-fought contest against Mentor in the 2021 Hall of Fame City Hardwood Classic at Massillon Dec. 18. Mentor won 65-61. Jalen Wenger was Dalton’s top scorer with 23 points. He also grabbed five rebounds. Braylon Wenger came up with 18 points, two rebounds and one assist. Schlabach totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Gaut finished with three points, three rebounds and two assists. Fiesler had two points and two boards. Quentin Lehman pulled seven boards and scored five points. Pearson had one rebound.

Central Christian School

Central fell to Hillsdale 52-39 on the road Dec. 14. Caden Granger was the top scorer for the Comets with 16 points. Tyler Bonner added 14 points. Dakota Kerby finished with five points. Thatcher Rohrer contributed four points. CCS now has an overall record of 2-4 and they are 1-1 in the MBC.
